Light a ColdFire with PRIME

MicroSockets is pleased to announce the availability of MICROSOCKETS PRIME for Freescale ColdFire microprocessors and microcontrollers.

MICROSOCKETS PRIME

PRIME is a full-featured boot loader, monitor and diagnostic tool for 16 and 32-bit embedded systems. Core featues include:

• In-circuit programming of internal or external flash memory
• Automated bootstrap and application loading from flash memory
• Full-featured monitor for interactive operation
• Configurable processor and board diagnostics on boot

PRIME provides the essential start-up services for embedded systems that do not require a full-featured operating system such as uCLinux or WinCE.

PRIME and Freescale ColdFire

PRIME is intended for devices that utilize external memory for application program execution. ColdFire microcontrollers and microprocessors that utilize external SDRAM to run applications loaded from slow speed Flash memory are ideal targets for PRIME. Freescale ColdFire processors supported by PRIME include:

• V2: MCF520X, MCF521X, MCF523X, MCF524X, MCF527X, MCF528X
• V3: MCF532X
• V4: MCF547X, MCF548X

The default target is the popular MCF5282 microcontroller.

WINPRIME

The Microsoft Windows application WINPRIME is supplied to support in-circuit programming of flash memory. On-chip flash and external flash memories are supported.

Application code is automatically relocated to store the firmware image in flash memory. PRIME loads the application to RAM for program selection, faster execution and simpified debugging.
